Here's wishing Vishy

Congratulations to Viswanathan Anand for winning the World Chess Championship in Mexico City on Saturday!! He retains the World No. 1 rank now. Way to go Anand! :)

Dont know how many of us even know about this news...a stark contrast compared to the news of India winning the T-20 World cup! :(

A few links discussing this news:

BBC News: Anand is new world chess champion
The Hindu: Anand breaches the magic mark
Earthtimes.org: Anand only player above 2800 in new chess list

i dont think ppl consider cricket as a game..its more like a religion in india..cant compare it with other sports..hehe...

@mystery, @raz and everybody else: Even I like cricket very much. All I was saying was that we should give comparable (cant give same...because, obviously cricket is more popular and generates more revenue) recognition and appreciation to achievements in other sports too. The least we can do is publicise it well enough so that most of the Indians get to know about this. So far, the 3 people who read my blog have given the same reaction that they didnt know about this earlier, which is sad.

hey Raj...Tony effect eh :)

itz a pity that this news is not getting the coverage it actually deserves... tell me one thing raj.... Three of the International Grand masters are not in the arena, Kasparov, Karpov and I think Nigel Short his name is....Anand for sure is the best of the current lot.... But do u think the current ppl gave him a run for the money? (honestly i dont know..athaan asking..but when those champions were playing, i used to cheer Anand's every victory, even if that meant he came 2nd or 3rd or 4th)

@RS: :)...yes...its the Tony effect. I mean, I knew Vishy was going to the finals and then that he had won, but it didnt strike me that I should put a post about it (am relatively new..like 5 posts in the recent past in total maybe? So these things didnt stirke me! :) ). Only when Tony mentioned it did i realise that I could do my bit! :)

I dont think Anand got a run for his money (atleast, not as it used to be). But I cant comment anymore because I havent been following much of anything these days. Once Iam done with my masters, I would get back to following all the news! :) Btw, I had been trying to visit your site, but saw that its for private eyes only! Are my eyes private enough?! :D
